An Effect of Extract of Perilla frutescens Britton var. acuta Kudo on Changes in Refractive Error

Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of Extract of Perilla frutescens Britton var. acuta Kudo on Changes in Refractive Error.

Methods: The subjects were 30 male and female who do not have eye disease and systemic diseases and over ?3.00 D of spherical equivalent refractive error. Extract of Perilla frutescens Britton var. acuta Kudo and control group, placebo were dosed at separate try. After 2 hours later, subjects were directed perform visual display terminal (VDT) work for 2 hours. Objective refractive error was measured before dosing extract of Perilla frutescens Britton var. acuta Kudo and after
VDT work for 2 hours.

Results: Effcet in terms of spherical equivalent refractive error for dominant eye was decreased by ?0.155¡¾0.27 D, non dominant eye was decreased by ?0.163¡¾0.28 D in the group of extracted Perilla frutescens Britton var. acuta Kudo. In addition, effcet in terms of spherical equivalent refractive error for dominant eye was increased by +0.133¡¾0.27 D (p=0.01), non dominant eye was increased by +0.120¡¾0.25 D (p=0.01) in the group of placebo.

Conclusions: Extracted Perilla frutescens Britton var. acuta Kudo was significantly inhibited if the mean spherical equivalent refraction error compared to placebo. It will indicate a positive effect on the decreased vision improvement. It is considered that Perilla extract be a meaningful future additional research related to the eye.
